Advent is almost here! The season of joyful anticipation and preparation for Christmas is just a week away. This year we are going all out with our decorations and celebrations of the season. In Liz Hinkofer’s article below you can read our exciting plans for the weeks leading up to advent. We will decorate a tree, share our favorite crèches, share Christmas cards, light candles, and hang decorated stockings.
We have some new services planned this year as well. First, on Thursday December 16th, we are offering a Blue Christmas service. For some of us, the holidays can be a difficult time. Maybe you have lost someone you love or are just struggling in life. This service will offer a time of lament for those of us who are not finding the season so jolly.
Then we will have a Christmas Carols around the Bonfire event on Saturday night December 18th, down by the columbarium chapel. Come, sing carols around the fire and enjoy hot cider and hot cocoa. There may even be marshmallows.
On Christmas Eve we will have a children and family-oriented service at 4:00 PM with all the elements of a pageant. Because of the pandemic, of course, we don’t have an active Sunday School to run a pageant, but we can still tell the story of Christmas with costumes and carols.
At 10:00 PM Christmas Eve we will have our Vigil service. This will be our first opportunity to celebrate Christmas live and in person with our new organ! There will be many beautiful musical offerings and, of course, we will celebrate Christmas with holy communion.
With love,
David+
